2009 Old Vine Zinfandel • Mendocino

Aromatics of braised short rib lightly dusted with white pepper and bay leaf, in a coffee and chocolate reduction sauce jump out of the glass. The mouth is extremely rich and full with a soft roundness. Flavors of fig and cocoa powder compliment the fine dusty tannins that linger on your tongue.

The Winemaking
This Zinfandel is barrel aged from once used American oak previous home to our Chardonnay. The grapes were cold soaked 5 days prior to open top fermentation then punched down 4 times daily for 21 days.

The Vineyard
We source this Zinfandel from our good friends the Johnson’s up in Mendocino County. It is a great vineyard with old vines that bring the intense flavors and extraction in this beautiful wine.

The Vintage
The 2009 vintage was beautiful and was similar to the lovely 2002 vintage. There were no sustained spells of unseasonable weather from April through September. Grapes from 2009 benefited from the great weather and provided winemakers with the quality they need to make amazing wines.
