Our 2009 Meritage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec. Lush tannins and intense fruit flavors of black currant, blackberries, plums, and cocoa combine on the palate for an excellent structure. Notes of coffee and boysenberry jam add to the complexity of this wine. Our Meritage is full, supple, and rich with a lengthy finish that will leave you lingering for more.
42% Cabernet, 35% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 7% Malbec
Our 2009 Meritage comes from the heart of Napa Valley in the Oak Knoll AVA. Oak Knoll is known for mixed soil types that create tons of full flavored, intense fruit profiles.
Our winemaker builds this blend piece by piece to ensure a wine with layers of complex aromas and flavors. Kevin uses modern techniques of cold soaking the grapes prior to fermentation and a slow, cool fermentation rate. This insures maximum extractions of color, not tannins, and the preservation of the fruit flavors. This wine is then barrel aged for 21 months in 50% new French oak.
The 2009 vintage in Napa Valley was nearly perfect and closely mirrored the famous 2002 vintage. There were no sustained spells of unseasonable weather from April through September. Grapes from 2009 benefited from the great weather and provided winemakers with the quality they needed to make amazing wines.
