2006 Pinot Noir • Carneros Napa Valley This is a polished Pinot from a winery best known for big, hearty reds like Petite Sirah and Zinfandel. They turn to Carneros for the grapes, and the result is a silky, refined wine, rich in cherry, cola, mocha and spice flavors. Best now and for a few years. - S.H. (5/1/2008) 2004 Old Vine Petite Sirah • Lodi Here’s the kind of Petite Sirah that’s launched the variety to unheard of fame. It’s a black, dry, tannic wine, absolutely packed with the ripest blackberry flavors you can imagine. With a clean finish, it’s lovely now, and should slowly ride out the next 20 years. - S.H. (5/1/2008) 2003 Petite Sirah • Russian River Valley Dark, rich, deep and full-bodied, this is a classic Petite Sirah. It’s bone dry, with sturdy tannins and good acids framing impressively ripe flavors of blackberries, coffee and sweet leather. Drink now through 2015. - S.H. (3/1/2006) 2005 Old Vine Zinfandel • Contra Costa County A high quality Zin, this is dry and complex, with wild berry, tobacco, spice, herb and oak flavors. Trinitas has worked with this wine for years, and this is their best ever. - S.H. (6/1/2008) 2006 Pinot Blanc • Russian River Valley Sometimes Pinot Blanc resembles Chardonnay, but this crisp, minerally, citrusy wine strikes a different pose. It does have a rich, creamy mouthfeel, which gives it a full-bodied mouthfeel, but it has a dry, steely character that makes it far friendlier with food than a fat, buttery Chard. - S.H. (4/1/2008) 2004 Old Vine Mataro • Contra Costa County You might think this was a big Pinot Noir, like a Santa Lucia Highlands, if you blind-tasted it. It’s thick and forward in blackberry, currant and cherry flavors, with a firm tannic structure, and very dry. Shows enough balance to age for up to six years. - S.H. (4/1/2008) |
